Traditional chat applications are not the best when it comes to communicating with a large team. Fortunately, there are various team-oriented chat tools available on the Internet and Slack is an excellent example. It enables you to create your own network, in which you can talk to a large number of people, create channels, keep them private to specific people and much more. The software's controls are particularly comfortable, so everything can be done quickly, without any effort.

Slack comes in free and paid versions and it works on all popular Windows platforms. Downloading and installing the software shouldn't take more than a minute, even on older machines. There are no prerequisite tools you have to install, so you can run the application right away.

The user interface has a familiar layout, so you don't have to spend too much time figuring out the controls, especially if you have used other chat applications before. A column, on the left side of the window, is where you can find general options for your network, notifications, created channels and contacts. You can chat in a selected channels or with a selected contact in the larger area on the right.

Channels can be created quickly, just by filling in on or two input fields. Additionally, you can flip a switch on the same screen, if you wish to make the channel private. Sending out contact invitations is a similar process. Specifying a contact's email address is sufficient, but you can also specify which channels you wish to invite them to.

Chatting in a channel is done normally, through short text messages, but it is also possible communicate with a microphone. What's more, the software lets you set a purpose for your created channels, which is essentially a message that will be displayed at the top of a channel's message log. A more interesting aspect is the possibility of adding apps and custom integration to a channel, which can be a real advantage in meetings or brainstorming sessions.

Communicating and planning with large teams can be as easy and comfortable as possible when using Slack.

Pros

Slack's functionality is convenient when it comes to chatting with large groups. The application's controls are well organized and easy to master. Everything can be done with only a few clicks.

Cons

Certain features, like voice chatting, are reserved for the paid versions.
